18 May 2008

After getting delayed for couple of times barcamp delhi 4, was finally held on May 17 at Amity Innovation Incubator at Noida ,around 250 campers registered on wiki and around 220 turned which is fairly good turnout , BCD4 had around 25 sessions this time on topics ranging from usual blog , social networking (facebook api, opensocial etc) , Indian IT scenario , startup best practices and product demos (check http://wiki.barcampdelhi.com/index.php?title=Main_Page#Product_Demo.28s.29 for info) besides Bug Stories and Quiz at the end of the event . One of the interesting product demo was of entrip.com (social travel mash up ? ) by two buddies from London Imperial College(Nick & Anthony) , for which they choose Pune for their startup (talk about reverse brain drain !! ) . Entrip.com UI has an intuitive interface which shows your trip tagged on Google Maps , on each trip location or tag , you view upload , videos, photos and notes . Another worth thing mentioning about is about venue itself Amity Innovation center , which is DST supported Incubation center (Dept of Science and Technology, which also means incubated start-ups can avail tax rebates etc ) which offers among other things(business plan , VC funding & Legal and IPR, Assessment assistance), a affordable infrastructure . They have good links with many VC firms land also fund themselves . Right now there are couple of companies being incubated and most of them got funded .

Also present were SIDBI( Nilajana Shrivastva), India larges t SME bank Ventures ,for which Govt. has set fund of whopping 2,500 crores ( http://www.sidbiventure.co.in/) , Mukul from Canaan partners and Bakshish from Sun Start up Essential program . Overall its seems BarCamp is becoming an essential part of startup ecosystem in India with big institutions supporting it. So whether you are planning startup or already running one , or just want to meet some cool creative people , you might want be there at next barcamp , I know I certainly will !
